No Limit Tactics and Strategies for the Flop
For all the differences between No Limit cash and tournament games, what they share in common is that the less you see the flop, the better. Some No Limit strategy guides even suggest that if you see 30% of the flop, you should change your game plan.
This is certainly true, but for the occasions when you find yourself in there, it is important that you have No Limit strategies for playing that part of the game.
Needless to say, all No Limit strategies for playing the flop rest on the assumption that you are not holding garbage hands. If you are going to play with mediocre hands, you have to be very good at bluffing, as that is the only realistic chance you have, short of having the entire flop augment your hand.
For high pairs, the most likely augmentation that you will get is that of the set, and the stronger your pair is, the more valuable the No Limit set is going to be. If it is an Ace or a King, then you can afford to engage in some slow play.
An alternative No Limit strategy is that with a pair on the flop, you should begin to make big bets, thus making it expensive to draw. This is more ideal if you feel that your pair or set is not as strong, or that there is another hand that can beat it.
This is true in particular to Aces. Why? Because you do not know what kind of hands the other players have, especially if you are going to act early. By the flop, someone could be holding a high two pair or a set. Another thing about Aces and face cards in general, is that when they appear on the flop, it can cause some tight No Limit players to fold quickly.
If the No Limit table is tight, then having a Queen or Jack pair might be a better hand, as these are hands that, while still strong, will not cause the other players to fold quickly. The trade off, of course, is that it can be beaten by a combination of an Ace or King.
The point to remember about the No Limit flop strategies, in fact, of No Limit itself, is that success comes with not just the right cards but also the right table.
Having the premium cards on a tight table will win you very little, because they will see it and fold. In that case, you should learn to play the other cards, and you will be able to pull off the victory.
